Raku refers to a type of low-firing process. Raku clay typically has high thermal shock resistance and low shrinkage. Sibelco has specific clays for Raku firing that create the best results.

Body colour will change depending on the type of firing atmosphere (reduction or oxidation) and temperature. We advise to test glazes as they are affected by irons and other colourants.

Wheel throwing : Wheel throwing involves using the potter's wheel to make objects.
Handbuilding: Working with clay by hand using only simple tools, not the pottery wheel. The three most common forms of creating hand built pots are pinchpot, coiling and slab techniques.
Industrial techniques
Casting: technique for the mass-production of pottery and ceramics. A liquid clay body slip is poured into plaster moulds and allowed to form a layer, the cast, on the inside walls of the mould.
Pressing: Method of ceramic powder processing for development of ceramic based products. Raw material is crushed in fine powders which is mixed with additives and then processed into useful products.
Dry pressing: Used for simple shapes such as abrasive products and whitewares.
Iso-static pressing: Powder mixture is placed around a central mandrel pin in a flexible mold on which fluid pressure is applied from outside.
Ram pressing / Roller: The RAM Process is the mechanical hydraulic plastic pressing of ceramic shapes with permeable dies.
